Welcome back.
Yes, we took a break. A break to recharge, recalibrate, figure out who we are. Who you are. What do you want? What do you need?
In that time, the world changed too. Creativity changed—in both dollar value terms and in how we define and measure it. The industry has gotten louder but less impactful; more crowded and obsessed with recognition, but often from the wrong people. Too many awards, too much self-congratulation, not enough introspection. We need to ask more important questions: what are we creating, and why? In a world that moves this fast, what is the process that truly makes an impact?
So in response, Semi Permanent is changing too. And this moment is as much about who are are as what we're not:
Not pandering. Not self interested. Not content for content sake. Not always available for your convenience. Not something you own. Not endless, mindless scrolling. Not an industry cheerleader. Not just accepting things without questioning. Not about the award you paid for. Not about clicks. Not predictable. Not about us. Not about you.
Starting with our first digital issue on the theme of ‘SYSTEM RESET’ we are pledging a more honest, global conversation that welcomes and accounts for everyone.
Of course, some elements will stay the same: We've got some great live events planned for 2025, starting in Wellington, NZ then Osaka, JP, with some more stops on the way. Then there are other projects in the works, each building on our commitment to pushing creativity forward with some much needed transparency. We’ll announce them when the time is right.
We know that initiatives like Semi Permanent are not a given, so we'd like to extend our gratitude towards every single human who has ever been involved with us over the last 20 years.
We look forward to seeing you again soon.
The Semi Permanent team.
P.S. This digital issue will self-destruct at the end of the month.
