Barney Kato – Semi Permanent Sydney

Barney's natural habitat is the party, whether it's in the centre of the dancefloor or behind the turntables mixing up the wildest records he has found in his 21 years of digging in crates around the globe.

His home Sydney isn't exactly the most welcoming city for parties but Kato soldiers on throwing his clandestine warehouse bashes and club nights Alien (electro and techno), Doe Dee label parties (skirting the outer limits of house music) and Breakbeat Chaos (breakbeat, hardcore and jungle) and playing Australia's best club nights and festivals including House Of Mince's Pavlova Bar, Subsonic, Goodgod Super Club, Lucid, Hopkin's Creek, Charades, People's Club, Heavenly, Vibe Positive, Ghostly, Yours and Owls, Freda's, Club 77, Spice and Splendour In The Grass. He has also been involved in playlisting for Sydney's Fratelli restaurants and Dear Saint Eloise wine bar in Potts Point utilising a broad range of sounds that transcend a traditional party dancefloor.
His recent production collaboration Barney In The Tunnel with Sydney producer Tunnel Signs has been well supported in Europe with their debut release being played by the likes of Gerd Janson, Skatebard, Special Request, Lauer, Massimiliano Pagliara, Eluize and many more and was also licensed to soundtrack an ad campaign for Pandora.
Kato also hosts the weekly Thursday Sunset on Sydney community radio station Fbi alongside Ben Fester bringing the best new underground sounds from around the globe to the airwaves of Sydney and is currently embarking on a new journey starting his own vinyl label Doe Dee with releases on the way from Australian artists Sweetland, Tred, The Ghan and Barney In The Tunnel.
