Barry McGee - Profile
Barry McGee installation
American-born artist Barry McGee is perhaps best known as a pioneer of the Mission School art movement, born from San Francisco’s Mission District in the early 1990s and centres around large-scale murals and incorporates elements of graffiti and so-called street culture. Often using non-traditional materials, such as ballpoint pens, spray paint, scrapboard and found objects, McGee’s work and established visual language addresses social concerns of urban life, and has been known under several different monikers, including Twist and Bernon Vernon. McGee’s work has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, the Biennale de Lyon, Berkeley Art Museum and Perrotin Gallery Hong Kong.
