Ismail Zaidy is a self-taught Moroccan photographer whose practice focuses on and is inspired by family. Zaidy began taking pictures in 2017 as a creative outlet for his perspective, with his siblings often serving as the subject matter of his graphic, pastel-hued visuals. Having grown up in a modest area of Marrakech, as a child Zaidy was taken by the ways in which women would wear their fabrics, such as a djellaba, on the streets, and these traditional cultures and ways of dressing still offer inspiration to the photographer today. Zaidy uses his practice – and the accessibility of shooting on phone, and publishing via digital platforms – as a means to share these unique, poetic aspects of his culture.
