Mitchell Oakley Smith is a global-roaming journalist, editor, author and curator. He has written for Architectural Digest, ARTAND, Art Monthly, Belle, CNN, GQ and GQ Style (where he served as Associate Editor), Harper's Bazaar, Monument, The Australian, Wish, Vogue Australia and Vogue Living, and edits and publishes biannual men's journal Manuscript.
Mitchell’s publishing remit expands beyond consumer magazines to custom projects and content marketing, comprising magazines, books, websites and apps for brands including The Woolmark Company, Westfield, Myer and Saba.
He is the author of several books on art, fashion and design, including Art/Fashion in the 21st Century, which has been published in four languages. His next book, Maticevski: The Elegant Rebel – a monograph about the fashion designer Toni Maticevski – will be published by Thames & Hudson in the spring of 2016.
He was engaged in 2014/2015 as associate curator of Fashion Icons: Masterpieces from the Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Paris, a major exhibition of 20th and 21st century haute couture at the Art Gallery of South Australia, organized in collaboration with Les Arts Decoratifs and Art Exhibitions Australia. As a result of his extensive experience in the industry, Mitchell is often engaged to speak at special events, museums and galleries. These have included Melbourne Art Fair, Sydney Contemporary Art Fair, Rolls-Royce 'Art Talks', Emerging Writers' Festival, the National Gallery of Victoria, the Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art, Art Month Sydney, The Future Laboratory, and the Art Gallery of South Australia.
