Javier Villar Ruiz is a Spanish architect based in Barcelona and Tokyo working internationally in architecture, urban and interior projects through his studio JVAD (Javier Villar Architectural Designers). He has been a partner at Japanese studio Kengo Kuma & Associates with a collaboration that spans two decades; and with Barcelona based studio Cloud 9.
Some of the architectural projects he has directed are the Grand Morillon Student Residences in Geneva, Switzerland; the Shipyard 1862 mix-use complex in Shanghai, China; the ArtLab cultural center at Epfl University in Lausanne, Switzerland; and the new Vera Bridge over the Guadalquivir River in Sevilla, Spain. In the interior design scale, he has directed projects of the relevance of the new Stairs & Atrium interior for the Unesco listed A. Gaudi’s Casa Batllo building in Barcelona, Spain; and commercial projects such as the Camper shops in Barcelona, Milano, Paris and Munich and the awarded Endo at Rotunda restaurant in London, UK. He has collaborated with brands like Viabizzuno for the design of lighting fixtures and Nicoichi for the design of lacquered crafted tableware.
Javier has shared his experiences in architecture and design through lectures in universities and congresses both in Europe and Asia.
