A New Basecamp
In 2025, the story turned a page.
The heart of Semi Permanent shifted from its birthplace in Australasia to a new basecamp in Tokyo, carried forward by 「 yes, 」a queer, women-led venture studio and consultancy.
Aotearoa remains a beacon, independent yet intertwined, its spirit in dialogue with Tokyo and the world. Together they form a constellation of places and people, each sparking light into the other.
Through every transition, one truth endures:
Semi Permanent exists to uplift. To honor artisans, innovators, and thinkers from this region, ensuring their stories travel outward, return transformed, and strengthen the fabric of our shared cultural industries.
Each experience is an offering. Carefully curated. Deeply felt. A reminder that creativity is both inheritance and horizon.
Who We Are
「 yes, 」began as a belief.
That meaningful change is not delivered fully formed. It is built patiently through trust, partnership, and shared authorship.
We are a queer, women-led consultancy and portfolio studio based in Tokyo. We work through partnership and co-creation to build, assist, and incubate sociocultural, impact-driven business endeavors.
Our work lives at the intersection of culture, technology, business, and community. Not as theory. As practice.
We invest. We advise. We incubate intellectual property. We steward platforms. We design gatherings that celebrate the people and communities we uplift.

The establishment of 「 yes, 」as both portfolio firm and consultancy reflects a long-term commitment to Japan.
We focus on shaping a more inclusive and resilient future for Gen Z and Alpha generations through business models, cultural platforms, and education that reflect the realities they are inheriting.

A joint venture with yes, and Advanced Design, Offsite Japan, fosters a vibrant, inclusive community for designers at every stage.
It offers a real-world view of industrial design, challenging traditional education structures while bridging gaps in access and championing diversity.
Learning here is not hierarchical. It is collective.

We are curating community stewards of Semi Permanent, a global cultural platform with more than twenty-three years of impact across business, culture, and design.
Today, it evolves through festivals, salons, education, publishing, and international exchange, with Japan as a vital anchor point.
Not a Design Studio
We are not a traditional design studio.
We are a community operating across our alum network, collaborators, and planning members.
We design, curate, and produce singular experiences.
For organizations seeking deeper engagement with their audiences, we combine strategic thinking with cultural fluency and a global network of artists, designers, chefs, food scientists and fermenters, technologists, engineers, DJs, filmmakers, and storytellers.

「 yes, 」 is a Tokyo-based cultural consultancy, venture studio, and family office.
We partner with organizations, founders, institutions, and governments to build work that sits at the intersection of culture, technology, business, and community.
