A New Basecamp

In 2025, the story turned a page.

The heart of Semi Permanent shifted from its birthplace in Australasia to a new basecamp in Tokyo, carried forward by 「 yes, 」a queer, women-led venture studio and consultancy.

Aotearoa remains a beacon, independent yet intertwined, its spirit in dialogue with Tokyo and the world. Together they form a constellation of places and people, each sparking light into the other.

Through every transition, one truth endures:

Semi Permanent exists to uplift. To honor artisans, innovators, and thinkers from this region, ensuring their stories travel outward, return transformed, and strengthen the fabric of our shared cultural industries.

Each experience is an offering. Carefully curated. Deeply felt. A reminder that creativity is both inheritance and horizon.

We are a queer, women-led consultancy and portfolio studio based in Tokyo. We work through partnership and co-creation to build, assist, and incubate sociocultural, impact-driven business endeavors.

A joint venture with yes, and Advanced Design, Offsite Japan, fosters a vibrant, inclusive community for designers at every stage.

It offers a real-world view of industrial design, challenging traditional education structures while bridging gaps in access and championing diversity.

Learning here is not hierarchical. It is collective.

OEO Studio Japan

In collaboration with the Copenhagen team, OEO Studio is establishing a formal presence in Tokyo and across Japan.

Rooted in a philosophy of compelling minimalism, the practice brings together architecture, interiors, product, and brand to shape environments grounded in context, material, and cultural narrative.

This is a long-term commitment.

Together, we are curating community stewards of Semi Permanent, a global cultural platform with more than twenty-three years of impact across business, culture, and design.

Now co-conspired with Teenage Engineering, it evolves through festivals, salons, education, publishing, and international exchange, with Japan as a vital anchor point.

This is a shared signal.
